Think of meteors as meteorites that don't make it to the ground. Instead, they burn up in the atmosphere. They are popularly known as shooting stars. Meteors often fall in regularly-occuring showers such as the Quadrantids Showers (January 3rd), the Perseids Showers (August 12th), and the Geminids Showers (7th - 15th December).
