One thing that all of us take for granted is the convenience of an electricity supply. You plug an appliance in, turn it on and it works - as if by magic!

The energy that is supplied by the electrical current has to come from somewhere. We often refer to this as generating electricity. In the UK we generate electricity from a wide range of sources that has changed over the years:
